ELKHORN GHOST TOWN

Elkhorn is set in the middle of the forest.  You drive 16 miles
out of Boulder, Mt. to get to it.  The man who found the Gold
is  buried in the Cemetery way up the hill overlooking the town
This town once had 2500 people living there.                          .

This is just coming into town, lots of old house 's barber shops etc,

There are actually still a few people who still live here

This is a store, see the front window,  one of the first display windows, has glass ,
and you can see the items from 3 sides.

There a still a few people leaving in the town,  16 miles on dirt road,
out of the city of Boulder, Mt.

This is a sign up on a hill overlooking the town. There was a
Diphtheria epidemic and they lost a lot of the people in there
town.  It was so sad ,about 75% of the graves were children
One of the families lost 5 children, then the mother died.

Even the old cars died. This is really a neat one, can't you just see this going up
the old dirt road.

This is one of the old mines.  It produced gold, silver, and lead.
Can you imagine the money the gold would have been worth on
today's market.

This was a cabin out on the outskirts of town. ( Suburban life.)

There was a dance hall on the the second floor of one of these.

This was a store of some kind, maybe rented rooms upstairs??

This tells a little history of the town.  Very interesting place.
         .

This house had a second story, see the door up top, but the
staircase is missing completely.

ALONG THE PAYETTE RIVER

Headed along Hwy 12 to LoLo, Mt........

This was a huge flock of Canadian Geese landed on the edge
of the Lake

Same Lake just out in the water, these are White Pelicans

There is a beautiful Park right on the river,  They have set it
up so you can rent Kyaks, or Rafts,  They put rocks in the
river so you can have artifical rapids.  Its very close to the
Road and you can set on the Park benches and watch the
Kyaks and Rafts go by.

A couple guys on the other side fishing.

This is a statue of one of the founders of the Parks Son

It seams that there is a river beside every road in Idaho and
Montana,  They must have no shortage of water

This a Swinging Bridge across the river..

I would have went further but the screws on the next two planks
were  loose,  which let the rope really loose.

THE FREE ENTERPRISE RADON MINE

                                                       RADON HEALTH MINES
This is the Free Enterprise Radon Mine. A friend from Canada told me about them a couple years ago.  She has been coming here for a few years, and said it had helped her arthritis very much.  They also say people with RA it helps very much, plus Diabetes, just all kinds of illnesses. I've been having hip problems and back problems, so I though I would try it.  Here are a few pictures of the facilities.  They have RV Hook-up and a Motel for you to stay in. It is in Boulder, Mt.

This is the office with Pat behind the desk.  She and her husband Burnett are the owners

This is the door to the Elevator that goes down 85 feet to the mine.  Very interesting for the first time.  There are two more levels below this, but they are not open to the public.  I met people who have been coming here for 29 years.

As you can see there are tables and chairs and recliners, even benches you can lay down on. The temp is very cool, I believe average is between 58 and 65.  So you have to take warm cloths down with you..  There are lights all over. People read and play cards, I even did my beading down there.  They suggest you do a 10 day therapy here.  That seems to be the time that helps most people.                                                                                                                                      Add caption

Like I said they even nap down here. Oh, there is Internet available also in the mine, so you can keep yourself busy.

This is looking down toward the west end of the mine.

Part of the mine has boarded up side, so its a littler warmer.  People write there names and towns they are from on the boarded walls

This is an option that only this mine has.  They have piped the radon air in from the mine to this room up on ground level.  It is heated and has recliners all over, plus wifi also.  A lot of the people who have been coming for years say they use this room just because its warmer and comfortable.  The radon is gauged on a regular bases to make sue the levels are OK.   You can go on line to Free Enterprise Radon Health mine, and read all the information on this. There are  3 other mines in the area,  But I checked them out and this is the nicest one.  Also only one with a Radon Room above ground.  I spend about 2 hours in the Mine below and then about 4 hours up in the Radon Room per day.

This is set up for your computer or you can use them anywhere in the room

They also have washer and Dryer facilities, nice large showers and restroom. Some of the people take water from the mine .home.                                                                                                                                                                                      .
